Measurement of Paracetamol (acetaminophen) concentration in human serum or plasma to support therapeutic drug monitoring, detect potential toxicity and aid diagnosis of paracetamol overdose.
•In vitro diagnostic enzymatic/colorimetric assay (Therapeutic Drug Monitoring).
•Widely used for Drug Monitoring in clinical laboratories, and fully compatible with all main of clinical chemistry analysers, (Roche, Siemens, Abbot and Beckman) or by manual spectrophotometric assays.
•Highly accurate quantitative determination of concentration of paracetamol to aid rapid turnaround in overdose diagnosis and drug monitoring.
•Technical : An enzyme specific for the amide bond of acylated aromatic amines cleaves the paracetamol molecule, yielding p-aminophenol, which reacts specifically with o-cresol in ammoniacal copper solution to produce a blue colour. The assay is specific for the parent compound and does not detect paracetamol metabolites.
